We're currently rebuilding the frame around our side window. Without wishing to tepmt fate it all seems to be going fine but we can't work out how to take the window stays apart. Luckily (sort of) the window frame was so rotten the screw that attaches the stay just pulled out. That leave us with the problem of accessing the screw to refit the stay.

The window stay is a 2 part 'telescopic' matt silver tube with a black plastic tab that you twist to tighten and hold the window open. It attaches to the window with a screw but the screw is covered by a black plastic cap that we can't get off no matter what we try.

Sorry for the long post. Does anyone recognise these stays and does anyone know how we can get the plastic cap off to get at the screw?

 If we can't get the cap off we'll have to buy some more but it seems a shame when they all work (and OH is a total skinflint!)
