I need to remove the entire kitchen unit from my Eccles Topaz to replace the sink drain pipe one problem the unit is screwed in from the outside and I don't have the area to remove the alloy shell can anyone suggest how I can remove the unit without removing the alloy shell of the van?
I will be replacing the unit with something that isn't damp
It is usual for fittings to be screwed to the ply lining before the lining is installed - ie the screws come through from the back so you can't get at the heads.
So it depends how much of the original fitting you plan to reuse. If you need to keep everything the only way is to remove the ply lining and bring the fitting with it. Even if you don't plan to reuse the fitting it makes sense to remove the ply liner anyway as when you come to reinstall you get a neater job if you put the new unit in the same way as the old one was.
Not sure of the age of your caravan but if it has a bonded wall then the fixings will screw into the wall of the van not through from the outside.
Either way don't contemplate removing the unit as a whole - strip first the fridge, cooker etc, then the top, next the front, working this way shows you exactly how the unit is put together. You will be left with the dividers fixed to the wall and floor, unscrew from the floor first (the screws should go down into the floor) then from the back, if these dividers are screwed in from outside push the front across so that you can get a dremmel with a abrasive cutter in to cut the screws or use a hacksaw blade. If the unit is as damp as you say then a wiggle and pull might well pull the divider from the wall anyway, or a couple of wiggles might well snap a rusted screw holding it
