The wood effect on the kitchen end units were flaking badly on my new van so I decided to paint it.

I had a hell of a time on the wall next to the hob and the wood effect was flaking off with the paint roller and it went very scabby. I got a sheet of perspex, painted the reverse side and fixed it to the wall so it looks like a glass splashback.

Hi Crankyhorse, good job.
I've got flaky wood effect paint on my cupboards too - been to B&Q today and got blinded by the sheer number of paints there - does anyone know what's suitable (they appear to be plastic?) and how to prep the surfaces so that the paint stays on?

I used Crown Ultimate paint.

Use a fine brush rather than a roller. Rollers will pull the wood effect transfer stuff off the units as you go and make things worse.

I'll try and get some wider pics tomorrow. I have been sterilising the water pipes today ready for my Scottish trip and it turned in to a DIY mastic hell time

I think that perspex splashback is a great idea :)  Even though you did it from desperation lol.  Much easier to keep clean than anything i've ever seen in a caravan :)
