quarter inch exterior ply will mend it.make a brown paper template of all the base and use this to cut your wood shape out.after shaping cut wood in half for fitting.glue and screw over the top of the old one.care not to go through gas pipe . plenty of glue and screws it will be solid again. all DIY places will cut to size and then you only need to shape it to fit. give it a good paint with green fence preserve. If you do put wood down for the floor, make sure you don't cover any gas dropout vents. Perhaps you could drill lots of holes in the required area ?
