The brass gas taps on my gas hob in the celeste are starting to stick and sometimes will not work at all.It does not appear to be heat related as they are the same cold.I have cleaned any visible verdigris (there wasnt much) but am cautious about how to proceed....all my welding and industrial gas controls always have labels warning against oiling.
Given that one is no longer permitted to work on gas appliances and thus unable to dismantle to clean further, where do I go from here and how do I stop it happening in the future ?

you can buy a special gas tap grease , i think it contains graphite , the one i have is made by dow ,i used it on my 3 way fridge valve , when it had a slight leak on using it , with use the grease displaces and can make the valve harder to turn ,, cant recall the actual name though , a good gas spares place will sell it , if your confident enough to take the valve apart , they're a pretty simple affair , and the smooth wedged shaped bit is what you apply the grease to , it also provides the gas seal ,,

Stevie, thank you mate ! Thats just what I needed to know. Of course I wont be taking the gas installation apart because its not allowed any more so it would be very naughty for me to do so.But if I was a very naughty person then what you have told me is very useful. But Im not.So I wont be.Obviously.

no probs ,, just tell the person who does it to watch out for the fiddly bits so suggest they dismantle very carefully , same as when you take the back off a watch ,,
