I am replacing old water heater as the tank central rod had perished away at the neck, I have managed to get one for £125 from ebay, the problem i have come up against is removing the gas feed pipe from the replacement heater, I managed to get the pipe off but it has left a copper sleeve still attached to the metal body, they have used some type of sealant, does anyone know what sealant they would use, asit will destroy the copper sleeve getting it out, thanks susan brassington
Expensive way of doing it as your old one was perfectly repairable?!
However, the red stuff will come off with thinners if that is indeed what's holding it? my guess it's jammed due to being soft copper and having been over tightened.
Further I don't see why you want to save it? infact you cannot reuse it in any case. Also I assume you have the original connection from the old heater still in place?, so once the offending copper piece is removed, will fit straight on.
Hi, thanks for your reply, we have indeed realised that the water heater is repairable and has been done, we only bought a replacement on someone elses advice as we are new to vanning, The heater burst on the first trip out as the inner rod was totally perished, There must be some sort of sealant used on the gas feed connector to stop leakage, as soon as i know what it is i can refit,, The replacement is going back on ebay,,
