Can you recommend a digital voltmeter and a separate digital ampmeter? I'm looking for accurate, simple and fairly cheap ones.

There are some very expensive ones out there. But I bought a cheap one from ebay and its results vary against my multimeter.

Thanks

I bought one of these voltmeters very recently and have now fitted it to my caravan - looks great.
It arrived very quickly too.

Hi Colin

I bought a very similar one - its at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Voltmeter-12V-D-C-Battery-Monitor-Panel-Meter-/160510337754?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET&hash=item255f2962da.

But its readings varied against my multimeter, over time. There wasn't even the same difference between it and my multimeter, on every occasion, so I could do nothing with it.

Please let us know how accurate you find your meter is.

Thanks

Hi Slowly,

Good point - I'll check it soon.
I have a good Fluke multimeter to compare against.
Will post results when I have them.

Hi Slowly,
Checked the eBay meter against my Fluke multimeter today.

eBay meter read 14.25 v
Fluke multimeter read 14.23 v

I only checked at that voltage though.
May check over a range during use of the caravan when on site soon.

Colin

Hi Colin

Thanks for letting us know. Your initial result is not bad. What did my head in, over time, was that my eBay meter and my reference meter disagreed with each other by a variable amount. It took quite a while to work this out - what a lot of effort to find out it can't be trusted!

Your post has made me think that the disagreement may be voltage dependent. ie, if I factored in the variation in voltage, the disagreement may be following predictable laws. However, though I can just about handle this concept, there is no way I could, in practice, handle the maths!

Good luck with it and do let us know.

Very slowly does it.
