I have just resealed the awning rails with sikaflex and I'm now going to do the front windows, My question is do you have to use the mastic tape on the rubber seal (the one that is stapled on) when refitting or would sikaflex do the same job.
we used the tape ,its a tricky job and definately better with two folk doing it ,i think there is a step by step on one of wizards fix it club site ,good luck with it

The reason that I I'm asking the question is that I have a lot of sikaflex left and don't see the point in buying mastic for the job if sikaflex will do it.
But I want to make sure that it will be water tight with sikaflex after spending LOTS OF HRS resealing it, I don't want to have to do it all over again
Sikaflex will do the job but you won't be able to remove it again at a later date except with a knife. If it is an old caravan & its not a job you expect be doing again then use it.
yep id agree with that tentz,we just thought it easier to use the tape ,its up to yourself as the sikaflex is expensive and it doesnt have a long sell by date so you cant leave it lying for a long time ,anyway whatever way you do it hope it is easy to do !!!!!
When doing a window reseal I used Seamseal (cheap to buy) around the edge of the rubber seal and the aluminium. And I can't see a problem if you were to use Sikaflex.
Well I started resealing the windows last weekend, what a job it turned out to be.
Two windows done 5hrs each to do them and still got 3 more to go(well if you are going to do a job do it rite)
One or two of the problems that I had.
Old rusty screws that I had to drill the heads off.
Resealing with sikaflex was a bit messy.
But the biggest and most time consuming part of it was taking the old silicon off, It was a nightmare even with all the advise and tricks that I have read on this site.
So if you are thinking of doing this job to your caravan make sure you have plenty of time
I'd use the roll of mastic, trying to use Sikaflex is very messy and it's a &*$% to get off. The mastic rolls will stick to the frame allowing you to just drop the rubber over the top without it oozing out or risk of missing a bit. The rolls of mastic are a lot cheaper than Sikaflex too and if you have any left over, won't go off after a couple of days.
