siting in a warm caravan reading and listening to the radio I was rudley interrupted by the smoke alarm looking up from my book the caravan was smoke logged I went to the electric box in the van and switched off power the battery light still worked so I had light but still no idea where the smoke was coming from so unlocked the gas turned off and dragged the cylinder clear then I noticed a glow from under the caravan looking under the bottom the floor was on FIRE oh s**t into the van grabbed the fire extinguisher and that smothered the flames but there were still hot spots glowing red so I filled an empty window spray type bottle with water and using the trigger targetted glowing embers while pulling scorched ply away after an hour I felt confident enough to crawl back out that was at 10 pm I stayed awake until 2am and only after placing my lovely smoke alarm close to the fire seat so that i would be woken The cause was a fractured pipe in the gas fire that was ignighted by the fire so new fire extinguisher and possibly a new fire I had only replaced the smoke alarm and fire extinguisher last nov money well spent

Glad youre ok, shows the need for thorough regular checks and servicing to hopefully notice failing components, not to mention smoke alarms for when the unexpected crops up.

Wow pretty scary stuff but sounds like you have a calm head on your shoulders and did the right things as well as having all the right equipment with you
