We are in Cornwall this weekend and have just discovered that there is a damp problem in our van (Bailey Pageant Bordeaux 2006 series 5)
Discovered this as one of the front window blinds was hanging loose (screw had come free due to rotting fixing) After some at *&%$ ing I looked some more and found that 'soft timber' was evident for about 30cm from a point just about the right hand front window (viewing from inside the van) that was growing mould. I have photo but can't work out how to upload photoson this board.
The question is what are thelikely expenses of getting this fixed and is it something that can be tackled by a confident DIY sort of guy?
From what I can see I'd need to know the makup of the window surround and also where the source of the ingress is likely to be (nothing obvious on the outside of the van)
We have planed a trip to Austria in August so need to fix before then.
Thanks for any advice . . . we saw a post from Wizard9956 in this forum and thought he may be able to advise. Can't work out how to send directly to him, best this way anyhow I guess.
there a guy on here called Wizard he has done damp repairs as we looked at his pics he might give you some advice. Depending how much damage has been done is how much you have to remove cupboards seats ect we have never been brave enough to tackle anything that big. But we are hopeless at houshold diy anyway but good luck with it someone will come along on here with some knowledge I'm sure
Thanks for the post, very useful link to Caradads account of his repair of an Eldis.
I enjoy joinary and DIY projects, the problem is time (I run my own business too)
Having said that the two weekends stated by Caradad sounds do-able (give or take)
My problem is not the bottom of the window but the top side. Also I'm not sure what I will find once I remove the inside panel on the B P B 2006. The 'cross van' rail is on the roof and presumably there is more internal timber located beneath this. I'm suspecting thet the ingress is from a failure in this rail - I can't see another source.
Has anyone got specific Bailey Pageant Bordeax 2006 experience in this area. I'm pretty certian I'm going to crack on with this (although we are going to get a quote and hopefully some feedback regarding the problem) I'd just like to be as prepared as I can for when the job starts.
I'm going to give Lizzie the job of documenting everything as we go - We'll post when done on the Fixed IT Club.
Oh just one more thing - The link to Wizards Caravan Damp Repair site on Caradads site is broken http://hp-h.com/p/wizard41/ If anyone has the correct link I'd appreciate it. I did find several other links to Wizard pages but these too were broken - - He's probablyfixing vans rather than patching his web !!!
Also if one is allowed to message Wizard directly on this board, some info on doing this woukld also be very helpfull.
Thanks again for all help on this - now and in the future.
Hi...I wondered if some kind soul could help us please. We bought a caravan a couple of years ago which my son used as an extra bedroom (long story so I won't go into it)! Anyway, he's recently moved out and into Uni so we've decided to clean out the caravan and begin using it ourselves. It's a lovely little 5 berth Fleetwood Garland 165/5 and it's perfect - except I've just discovered when cleaning it, that the window sill on the left and right hand sides at the front is quite soft and there are black patches appearing. I got a friend to look at it (she's had a few caravans) and she reckons that it could be because of condensation. I'm worried though that the problem is much deeper and that it is the dreaded 'damp' that I've read so much about. How do I go about repairing or replacing the actual sill? Is it easy to repair or should I look for someone to do to it for me? How expensive would it be? Sorry for all the questions but we're mere novices at the moment:(
As previously posted,go to wizards web page, click on fixed it page then look at caradads fix on the front end of a fleetwood garland, I used this to fix my own fleetwood a couple of years ago and it was invaluable...
Al+Mel and fleetwood99 I can't thank you enough!!! Just had a look at Caradad's site and he makes it look so easy! D'you think he'll do mine for me, haha???
