Morning, this is my first post and I am unsure as to whether the photos I am trying to upload, will actually show! If not I am hoping somebody will advise!
Three weeks ago we purchased a Fleetwood Garland 114-2 1991 van after years of camping. It was a bit of a spur of the moment thing - went away for Easter and came home with a caravan - but financially, it was too good an opportunity to walk away from!
I have previously towed a very heavy trailer but was slightly dubious about 'bring it home' particularly since it was on a day of gale force winds and driving rain - but made it safely and without incident! lol
Fortunately the cupboards and sofa fabric were both in fairly good condition and just needed a really good clean but the rest of it needed some additional attention!
Therefore we have just spent the last few weeks 'pimping' it. New carpet, vinyl, I made fully lined curtains, matching cushions, painted the toilet [which was grim] removed and replaced all internal mastic seals, my partner has 'serviced' the toilet, we have added new safety bits and pieces [smoke alarm / fire blanket / carbon monoxide detector] etc etc etc....
We think she's looking pretty good now and are getting excited about taking it to Norfolk on June 1st!
Hope the pictures show - if not any advice would be welcome!
I have just had a mega quick flick through your blog! Amazing amount of work and looks great!
I have saved the link as there are a few bits on there which may interest Mark, as we may, in the future need to look at the front windows as there is a bit of a dodgy area where some water has obviously got in some while ago and not been repaired.
Thanks for the heads up [DNKPets] on the smoke alarm, must admit we just replaced one which was already there [so to avoid more hole filling]; I checked the London Fire Brigade's info site and it doesn't say don't so will hopefully be OK. I am sure it will go off when the old bacon goes on! lol
Totally agree Karen, hard work, but so satisfying. Fortunately, I have always dabbled in a bit of sewing and have had a machine for years but never attempted lined curtains!
They took a fair while but I got a bargain 10m of upholstery / curtain fabric from eBay for just £39.00 and used cream bed sheets for the lining as it worked out cheaper than 'actual' lining material!
We were very lucky with the colour of the sofas, being neutral and in good condition it was one big job we avoided!
Very nice, well done. We've got a 1993 Fleetwood which is very similar to yours and have recently ripped out the front windows all the front and half the side walls each side due to damp. We considered changing the seating around at the time when we had everything out, but weren't sure how we could make the bed up into a double if we did.
Are you able to still make a double bed up? If so how?
Our sofas can go either way. When we viewed it and brought it home they were in a standard U shape. Sofa either side and TV unit in the middle. [As can be seen in the original photo]
When I started pulling things apart to clean etc. I noticed a couple of clips / notches on the side wall. Realising they must be for something I started to poke about.I also found a 'spare' cushion under stored under the beds?
It then became apparent that you can lift up the small drawer unit [which I guess most people would pop a TV on] and fit it to the other wall. Then by rearranging the cushions, including the 'spare' you can make the L shape arrangement. It appeared this cushion had barely been used since it is not required in the U shape configuration but is needed in the L shape.
The slats pull out from the center, as before, and cushions jigsaw together to make what becomes a 200cm x 180cm [very large] bed, which this week I discovered fits into a super king size fitted sheet very nicely!
For us [a family of 4] it works so much better; and to the eye gives a greater sense of space also.
I am presuming yours may be the same. Do you have a Garland or is yours a Colchester?
Ours is a Colchester. It doesn't have the option in the seating like your's, we know for deffinate, as we had to take the table and seats out when we did our repair and there were no notches or clips on the walls.
How do you support the bed at the side where the seat finishes and there is the gap to the other side?
We had considered changing to an L shaped layout when we put the chairs back in, but looking at your pictures our fridge is next to the seats and so the cupboard is larger. Our table/drawers at the front are different as well as they overlap the front shelf area.
We're going to put some photos up of before and after our repairs soon so you will be able to see the differences.
What I will do is go in tomorrow and take a few photos; it's quite hard to explain but only involves moving a few bits of wood.
Our fridge is under the sink, it's a cupboard which is on the sofa wall but I am not sure that should make a difference unless it affects the size of the cushions.
I will get 'snapping' tomorrow and hope this helps.
