Caravan was serviced this week prior to going to France. Engineer has stated the RCD needed replacing, I have got one from Wickes and have started fitting it. At the top of the of the old ones was a solid copper bar with three connectors (sheathed in plastic) joining the 5amp + 10amp mcbs to the 40amp rcb. The new RCB live terminal is on the right too far away for the connector to reach. Any advice please?
If you don't know what you are doing, don't do it. Get someone else who knows what they are doing to do it. If it cost £100 to get an electrician to do it then it is a good price for potentially saving your life.
On mine the copper bar is the negative side - the live wires go straight to the MCBs and there is a separate earth bar. I've never seen any that had the positive going to a common bar
thanks for the advice so far. When I took th bar out the black common cable was on the right of the rcd as you looked it and the bar was connecting the single pole mcbs to the rcd. Above there is a common bar and to the side an earth bar.
Pop down your local electrical dealer with the unit and explain what you are trying to do, they will probably sell you link wires to connect the RCD and MCBs
