Please bare with me as i'm a total novice! I'm on holiday in the caravan on my own with 3 children as well so things are a little awkward!

We have an old caravan with a whale pump. You press a button by the sink and it operates the pump. This button has broken and in a mad dash we went and acquired a push button switch from a caravan shop. Only problem is that this works in reverse - to get the pump to work you have to let go of the button so at the minute the button is held in with selotape which is hardly ideal as we're away for a week.

where can i get a replacement, can i get a replacement? is there something which will do the job? should the dam thing work in this way or has it been wired wrongly? Any ideas?

How many connections has it got .If more than two try swapping them round.If there is one on one side and two connections the other side, swap the wire on the side with two over to the other connector and leave the one where it is. If no luck a door bell push button will do the job.

Yes birdman is correct, you need a switch that only makes contacts connect when you push it in, these are called 'push to make' and if there are no suitable other connections on the switch as birder suggests, then if you are near to a company like Maplins, they have quite a few different sizes & colours of these types of switch, or even try their website here.
