Just had yearly service done to caravan and damp test on the front end is off the scale and service man says front end needs replacing.Bearing in mind the caravan has been under cover since october which was taken off at weekend gone and before i put it under cover my own damp test showed normal readings. Was wondering whether this could be down to condensation and could dry up .Also the damp meter i use is the one that has two prongs and pierce s the surface and was wondering if condensation can seep through the holes and show as a damp reading. Also there was no damp reading on front end in last years service. Thanks Paul
There's a massive difference between damp from condensation and damp needing the entire front replacing so something sounds a miss.
I think you're going to need to do some further investigation. Peel some wallpaper and carefully drill the odd hole in wallboards to see how bad it is.
If it was that bad the walls would be soft to touch.
Check it over again or get a second opinion, when you said its under cover is that a caravan cover or in a building.
I have been told that caravan covers can cause condensation if the vents aren't working well enough.
Yes its under a caravan cover but supposed to be breathable.Today i ve had a good inspection of the rail on the front were the dampness is showing and have noticed two tiny cracks running down about 10mm from under the rail itself, looks like the cracks could be running from the screw holes that hold the rail in place.Almost like stress fractures.Anybody any ideas what could cause these cracks.Wondering if somthing could have hit the front in this area while towing ie bird or somthing .
What age is th ecaravan, I have read a lot about stress cracks on baily caravans. It does sound like it could be, they usully start because there is not enough clearace around the screw and when the caravan is being towed movement causes the crack.
