Just bought 2 new gas struts from SGS Engineering.

About £20 each inc delivery which is half what local garage wanted to charge me.

Next day delivery, looks like a good product and comes with 2 year guarantee.

SGS are excellent and I've used them many times, not only for locker struts for the caravan.
They also provide a good re-gas service which is favourably priced over a full replacement strut (although obviously sometimes this isn't suitable, but they'll advise and sort you out).

I can't recommend them highly enough.

Just come back from caravan after fitting two SKS gas struts on a Heki 2 rooflight.

The replacement struts from SGS engineering are far superior quality than the original Heki 2 gas struts.

I bought two with next day delivery for the same price as a caravan shop wanted for one, and both fitted like a glove.

A cheaper - but more labour intensive - alternative is to source one off a car at your local scrapyard. I replaced the single strut on my Sprite Quattro gas locker with a boot strut from a Fiat for the princely sum of £3.

Don't forget you need to find one that roughly matches the length of the original, but also matches the 'nm' rating - too weak and it won't work, too strong and you might send your locker into orbit.

Muckier and more time consuming than online shopping of course, but just thought I'd throw it in as an alternative idea.

Just purchased a Bailey Pegasus II from a private seller without any warranty. Both gas stuts have failed on the rooflight and have purchased new ones from SGS.

Would you have any pointers on replacing them? I can't even see an easy way to remove the originals.

The items ordered from SGS took almost a week to arrive despite the boast on the website that "Next day UK delivery costs £5.30."
There is no alternative postage available. On a better note, the items ordered are fitted and working.

As jonnie above, local car scrapyard most good yards have them on the shelf, no work involved couple of pound each.
even cheaper than the postage costs from elsewhere

Didn't think there were many scrapyards left. All the decent ones there used to be in this area have gone, and the few that are still around have extremely limited stocks. Never have what I want!

There is a place near me that takes in scrap cars, but they are cut up intact and crushed within days. They don't strip or sell parts at all.
