Hi, we are currently on holiday in Norfolk and my daughter broke the roof light latch, having only one latch working my husband feels it is unsafe to drive home like this, 200 miles, so we have ordered new ones but wondered if anyone has ever changed them and if so how easy is it? Thanks

Depends on which model you refer to. As you mention two latches, I assume you mean the version with a pair of sprung handles on either side of the roof light dome. In this instance, each sprung 'leg' can be removed from the frame by removal of a screw through the end fitting of the legs. You should then be able to remove the roof-light dome, either sideways through the opening or easily from the roof of the van. You'll then see how each section is screwed together; I think from memory you dismantle the dome first then remove the catch.

You might need a set of torx type screwdrivers, as this fitting was sometimes used as an alternative to philips head screws,
Reverse the sequence to refit.

Hi Julie, good call, I wouldn't risk it either, Never changed one myself so had a look and I'm assuming it's a Hekki ll.

Whichever side it is, it is part of an assembly that also holds the gas spring and operating bar. The easy bit is the assembly that is held on by four screws, the other bits have a pin and retainer clip and that could prove a pain.

If all else fails try tie-wrapping a piece of wood like a broom handle across the inside opening to somewhere on the dome to prevent it opening till you get home.

Hi, thanks for you help, yes it's a Heki 2, the parts should be delivered on Tuesday, the site where we are staying says that they will send their maintenance guy to help with his tools, tried to get a mobile caravan serviceman out, but none were interested in helping at all. Still undecided as what to do, whatever we decide will be wrong!

Julie

Well the part arrived today and it took my husband less than 10 mins to fit it. The trickiest part was putting the pins back in apparently. Roof light now secure both ends and my daughter is banned from touching it!!!
