Hi All

Having just bought an ABI Transtar 'van, I discovered the dreaded rot around the front windows.

Removing the trim which was hiding the worst of the damage revealed a horror story of crumbly wood and little else.

The good news, though, is inspired by the articles on this site, I'm going to strip out the old stuff and rebuild. My question is, though, does anyone have any idea as to what thickness of timber I should be using to reframe the windows? I can't measure the old stuff due to its being swollen and rotten, so would appreciate any suggestions as to how to determine the correct thickness to use.

Could be 19mm. Should be the same thickness as the foam.

Sadly, though, there's no foam in there, only fibreglass wool :-( (or what I thing was at one time fibreglass wool!)

undo one end of your window rubber and measure its internal width,(most is anywhere from 30 to 45/50mm) from this take away the thickness of the front panel and an eighth of an inch for the internal wall board( or whatever your going to use) that will leave you with the thickness of baton you need for the framework

I'm using 19mmx 32 mm. That seems to wool well
