I am about to rip out the damp lining of my vintage caravan, but because of it's age (I think), hardboard is currently the lining. I am thinking of replacing in with ply-board. Firstly, is this a good idea? Secondly, are there any hints or tips that anyone may have about cutting the curves into the ply-board, if a template, how would I go about making one? Sorry, just one more, what would be best to use to cut the ply-board, jigsaw or Stanley knife?
Sorry for the pathetic questions, this is my 1st caravan and my DIY skills are not what they could be.

Looks like you had your work cut out there for you. Very brave of you to make the window wall in one piece, not sure if it is something I would have the guts to do. Excellent job though.

Thanks Steve. Yeah it was a bit more work than anticipated, but we had our first weekend away last weekend and it was excellent. The kids loved it, as we did, so it was worth while in the end.....
The front window piece wasn't too diffiuclt, just fragile! Careful handling saw that it all went smoothly.
With any caravan work, just take your time, measure twice & cut once!
lol, I have always been told to measure twice, but I am sure my tape measure lies to me. Did you use ply or hard board to reline and would you mind if I asked you how you managed to cut the curves, did you use a template? If so, how did you make the template for the walls?
Just emailed your link over to my wife, she is reading it now, I thought it was a great idea, so I just started my blog for my little Cadet 10 too. I think it is a great idea. Thanks for sharing your link, it has given me a lot to think about, and a great source of info for me to return to while I am refurbishing our van.

I used proper wallboard for the front and rear seating area.
Only used ply in the shower/toilet room as I bought some heavy duty vinyl paper for there.
As for the curves in the front piece, we cut the wallboard to the correct height and width then put in place, then marked the windows from the outside using the ABS plastic front as the template.
The using a jig-saw with a thin blade designed for cutting curves, we carefully cut out the windows. I had to do a little bit of trimming with a stanley knife once fitted. But I'd rather trim than have a gap.....
Glad my blog can help. I actually got the idea from my sister. Her work on her van was a lot more than what I needed to do. I'll dig her link out for you.
Here you go, this makes good bedtime reading! lol HERE
