Have finally managed to purchase a caravan again! So excited. Thanks Jack and Jon for your advice on make and models. Still didn't get one with a cassette loo, but did get a dry-ball probably more important. Towed it home 200 miles on Sunday and husband said nothing we've ever had has towed like it. (Easier than our folding camper!)Have managed to get copy of the Haynes manual, 3rd edition, so may fit a cassette loo yet. Inside is remarkably dry, no damp, no leaks, fabulous.
I do still need an awning, and given I have a 1987 van that I'm glamping I'd like some advice on where to find an awning. I don't want something that looks modern. I have been trawling ebay, but no joy. So if anyone has any ideas where to look I'd be grateful.

We too sold our Pathfinder FC and bought a caravan (1997) and, as you say, it tows better than the FC ever did.

Do you need a full awning?
A Porch Awning is easier to stow away, easier to erect and saves a lot of weight.
We will be using the one we bought for the FC.

Thank you Lobey. I understand the porch awning argument. However on longer trips like to be able to send teenage sons out to bedroom annexe, which doesn't work with a porch awning, likewise we usually have the dogs sleep out there. My search continues!

Try searching Preloved etc. As long as you know the size, IE the measurement from ground to ground right around the awning rail, you should find something.

Jolly good, you got the caravan. Awnings don't last that long if they are used regularly so you are unlikely to find one from the 80's unless you can find one dry stored unused for many yrs. All you can do is measure up so you know size & then keep checking ebay, otherwise buy a newer one. It would probably be a better bet anyway if you want to use it for sleeping in, an old canvas awning could be rotten & tear easily.

Regards, Jack+Jon.

Thanks Jack + Jon. We may well end up looking at a newer awning. The idea of an older awning is probably more romantic than practical and given we do actually camp, we need one that's practical! I'll keep trawling ebay and pre-loved. Hoping to get the new van out either the end of this month or early February.
I'll try and post some pictures soon to show the changes.

Hi Dartmoor Camper,
I have a eurovent awning size G-H burgundy, used condition, I have used it twice, v good condition. The poles have only been used once as I bought them new last year (I have colour coded them for ease of assembly). It also has a two berth annexe with it, which my teenage son has slept in and is in good cond too. Let me know if you are interested. Selling due to purchase of new van that has awning with it.
