Hi guys,

I am just starting a repair on 2 corners of my van, and thought I would keep a progress diary and ask the off question.

Day 1..... Began stripping a small section of wall down. As the damp now appears very localised I just can't justify replacing a 4 foot board for a foot of damp. Pics to follow. Found that a couple of struts, grab handle block were very degraded..... out they come.
The board is in generally excellent condition still so is a PAID to remove (have a hacksaw and Stanley knife ready) Whole areas now stripped in 2 2foot squares and measured.

Made sure ALL rotton wood removed!!!

next step is a bit of a grey area.....

I have purchased

4 mm ply
25 mm polystyrene
2 cans expanding foam
1 tub of wet rot treatment for areas surrounding
4 tubes sikaflex
carpenters join tape for the joins
wallpaper ready to go!

Is there anything else anyone can think I may need for step 2 tomorrow?

What are you going to use to stick polystyrene to aluminium,and ply to polystyrene,whats the expanding foam for.

I'm going to use sikaflex for both and just hard as nails for the batons :-) the expanding foam is just In case I find that I have cavities in the wall, as long as it has an escape then shouldn't push the wall outwards :-)

I wouldn't use any grab adhesive (hard as nails etc...) as it isn't flexible once dried/cured.... Sikaflex or Tigerseal is a much better adhesive as it dries/cures flexible but remains very strong... I also wouldn't use expanding foam either but only because I hate the ruddy stuff as with me it gets everywhere LOL

I used pu18 for all the internal stuff. Similar to sikaflex but half the price

Update. ...

wall has new batons in, new polystyrene, all planed level etc. I am going to use tiny lost head or whatever they are called tacks to keep board in place and then remove after....

nearly the biggest wall board done.

The rotton area turned out to be tiny and not even black etc but removing and refitting whole wall anyway. In other areas going to cut the damp patch out in a square and just replace with new square! It feels slightly soft but now after seeing under neath the main beams are wet but not rotton only ones that suffered were softwood batons.

Note to anyone reading..... its easy to read horror stories off sites like practical caravan with everyone scaring you..... but it's NOT AS BAD AS IT SEEMS as long as not smelly or black lol l.
