Husband had a blow out last night whilst travelling. He slowed down asap but the tyre has ripped a hole in the floor, damaged the nearby large cupboard, shredded the dinette chair and chair cushions, large curtain for the extra bed and curtain rail were all dragged out on to the road. The caravan is a 2006, Sprite Major 6.
Do you think that there is any chance that she will be back up and running for 2 weeks time for our France trip. If not, can anyone talk me through the likely scenarios.

Covered on the insurance? Do you have a policy that will provide an alternative van whilst yours is begin assessed/repaired?

2 weeks is a very short tim e in the world of caravan repairs. Insurance and dealers are probably looking at months rather than weeks.

Repairing yourself in 2 weeks is probably OK if you can get the parts quickly enough and have good DIY skills and the tools to do the job properly.

I had one go many years ago that was exactly 5 years old -- the caravan was 4 !
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but it obviously pays to check the age moulded on the tyre and change them every 5 years.
Luckily I was nearly stationary when mine went and no damage was caused.

Hi, sounds like an insurance claim, and perhaps you could get them to also to pay for a temporary repair to make safe usable for your holiday. as I don't think you have much chance of getting it all done and dusted in two weeks. give them a ring and see. here,s hoping you get sorted good luck.

i am surprised it did that amount of damage when it blew.. the outer tread must have delaminated or something..

Usually its not a rapid blowout but a normal puncture. Because its a fair way back you may not notice it.

Carrying on with a flat tyre is usually what causes the problems it started to come off the rim or starts to shred itself.

I tries warning a guy on the M54, But i was in a truck limited to 56mph so couldnt overtake. He totally ignore me flashing my lights at him.

He had gone from J3 to J2 on a flat tyre. I wonder how much further he got. I had to get off at J2.

i think you have it right grampian.. the same with lorry tyres..

a slow puncture or whatever occurs and it could be with a new type..tyre slowly deflates.. the driver is unaware and keeps going..

the tyres gets very hot the whole lot delaminates and flies apart..

none if this can happen with a simply "blow out" it needs a little more than that..

my thinking may well be wrong but it makes sense to me.. and it could equally well happen with a new tyre.. the main problem being a normal puncture and the driver not noticing.. tyres do not just explode without warning.. with a car the driver notices with a lorry or trailer they dont..

A temp repair could be fashioned quite easily if no structural damage. It just depends what your expectations of a temp repair entail. Sealed and useable but not pretty should be achievable in an afternoon.
