I have a ABBEY VOGUE GTS 2008 and require a new lesiure batter , we tend to use quite a lot of power from battery . eg cd player and lights , can anyone guide me through the minefield of which battery to buy , weighing up cost against effectivness . eg Numax, Powerline or the more expensive brands ?????
Of course the other factor is if you use only EHU sites or plan to run 'off-grid' at all?
Don't forget too the form factor (dimensions) of the battery to ensure the chosen device fits your locker/compartment, and maybe even the orientation of the battery terminals.
But as "Paul" said it is important costwise to know if you need a battery to support you off EHU, or that you only use EHUs with or without a mover.
If only a EHU user then the battery needed can be of the cheaper technology type used for car starter use; these are very suitable for powering a mover and if not "topped off" by drawing more than 20% of its labelled capacity will give a good life.
However should you frequently go off EHU, that generally means you use the battery to provide the energy needs*, then a battery built for that job will be needed to give a decent in service life.
* arguably if you have a good capacity solar cell that replaces the daily use such that the battery again never losses more than 20% of its storage capacity, then the cheaper starter battery will do the job.
It is all about selecting the right product for the job it is needed for.
We're completely new to caravanning and have just got our first caravan today :-) because it's second hand I wanted to get someone to check the gas cooker and heater. Has anyone any advice on this please?
Have a nose locally for a mobile caravan service engineer and get one in. The cooker, heater etc., are specialist so you need checked professionally for safety.
i just spent two weeks touring Scotland it could have been a month or two months.. if doing a lot of moving about the vans battery gets charged by the tow vehicle.. i used to have a small boat.. the same applied with that plenty of moving about never a power problem.. its when you stop still for a few days that battery power becomes a problem..
you dont need an expensive battery just a big one or more than one.. a powerline 110 amp battery will do the job just fine.. when it wears out and loses capacity you just buy a new one.. he he
