Your best bet is to get an 'intelligent' charger, these will regulate how they put charge into the battery and can be left on with the battery in the unit. Lidl do a fairly cheap one and you can buy fairly cheap ones on Fleabay as well.
I use one in my unit and just leave it plugged in, in the garage when stored over winter.
If you plan to keep the battery charged while van not in use, I would advise on a smart charger, such as (for example) a C-Tek MXS 5.0 which monitors and maintains the battery. These are far better long term.
Perhaps some more detail of your intentions?
As for refitting in the van, you wouldn't normally have the need to 'reset' anything, unless you have a radio that's reliant on the battery for station memory retention for example.
