Hi there
We have a 1 year old caravan with a dometic three way fridge. Arrived on holiday in Germany last night and the door alarm on the fridge is sounding every three minutes for nearly 30 seconds. It's 3am and it's still 32degrees, I really need the fridge!

We have tried to manipulate the door catch, disconnect the light unit, but nothing stops the alarm. No lights are flashing on the display and the fridge is getting cold. It doesn't matter what buttons you press when the alarm is sounding, it doesn't stop the noise.

Any ideas please? We have found the control panel circuit board at the front but can't get any further. We are en route to Italy and two weeks in 38 degree heat with no fridge is an awful thought. In order to sleep we have had to turn it off.

Any help much appreciated

Found this on another site:

<<Ours is the same fridge, Dometic RMS 8551 and we returned from a day out yesterday, with some frozen food, milk and vegetables, to find the thing beeping away, but with no flashing lights. I went through the manual, but there was no hint there of the cause. I switched off the fridge overnight like you did, and rang Dometic this morning and was given the following solution.

The problem lies with the wires and plug into the rear of the lamp unit becoming coated with condensation, which somehow activates the warning system - 30 beeps for 20 seconds repeating every 2min 40sec.

The cure is to pull off the plastic cover over the lamp unit, dry the wires and plug, and all is well - until the next time I assume.

A feature of the "fault" is that the fridge does keep working despite the alarm, so there's no need to switch it off if you can put up with the beeps until you are advised of the cure - OK if you can go out for a walk, but no good to sleep with.>>

Hope this helps

Thank you so very much Harpmaker! One very cold and silent fridge in the caravan and we are all slowly melting on the shores of Lake Maggiore, but thankfully not my fridge!

I am hopeful for a quiet night and lots of sleep. Many thanks again

Christine

It certainly did Alan. It's nearly midnight here and still 34 degrees. Unbearable without cold water in the fridge!

Try getting a hairdryer and blowing hot air into that sensor

Are you running the fridge on 12v? The Dometic manual identifies acoustic signal for 15 seconds every 2 minutes if the interior light stays on when door closed.........remedy, close door, check door contact.   Will keep manual near by if you need further info.

This has happened to us several times. Just unplug the light and then plug it in again in the morning.
