Yes it is normal as the rail comes off in two parts..
Unless the awning rail is leaking i would just leave it unless you fancy some work as its not easy for first timers .
Just done the awning rail on our very old Swift Danette. Took old one off(lots of new screws needed) cleaned thoroughly with white spirit then used Sikaflex to reseal. Very happy with the result. Difficulty scale,1 to 10, I'd say 6.
