Hi need a quick response on this one
My abbey spectrum has developed a faulty brake light condition where the lights don't illuminate bright enough in my opinion when the brake pedal is depressed
Now I believe the rear sets are in good order and bulbs are all new
Just checked the black plug and it looks quite corroded in places but the connection are intact
Do you this this connection could cause earth fault with the lights where the full power is nor being fed to the bulbs?
Anyone had this fault
Any suggestions next step is to change the black plug and remake connection
Any other tips or checks

Yes any corrosion on any components forming part of the circuit can lead to increased resistance and decreased bulb brightness. If all the bulbs are new, have you fitted the correct wattage bulbs and if they are dual element bulbs are they fitted correctly?

I'm sure many must have, enough to create a market for a cleaning tool, though you might be able to improvise with a small screwdriver/pen cap or similar and abrasive cloth/paper?

If the lighting unit used two-filament stop/tail light bulbs, check they're not fitted or wired the wrong way round (very unlikely).

In the rear light cluster there should also be separate earth terminals with wires connected to so it may be advisable to remove each one with some long nose pliers, clean them up with fine emery and spray the attaching connector with WD40 which is safe to use on electrical components. The earth is part of the circuit so if the new plug doesn't solve the lighting problem then I would try this afterwards.

Unless it is badly corroded, you can just remake the connections at the back of the plug and spray the contacts with WD40 or similar.
It is also worth checking/remaking the connections on the car socket.
