How best to look after our van overwinter; buy a good quality cover or seek undercover storage? Hector is a 23 year old Elddis Wisp so we feel keeping him dry is essential. He's currently stood on grass at friends, if we go for the cover option I guess axle stands are a must? We have already drained everything down and removed bedding etc. We are able to keep an oil filled rad' on low all winter. Any advice appreciated, this is our first year with a caravan. Thanks in advance.

better a rainy day up a hill than a sunny one in the office

Providing caravan does not leak then theres little point in using a cover, it appears to have survived the first 23yrs. Do not heat the inside, it will cause condensation. Leave cupboards open & ensure permanent ventilation in floor is not obstructed to allow air to circulate fully. Leave handbrake off with steadies down, ensure screw threads & joints on steadies are well lubricated with spray grease.

You can put it on axle stands if you like or just jack up a few times over winter & spin wheels. Standing on grass will tend to cause green mould on body but you can wash it off easily enough.

Best investment in my opinion is a good quality cover.

ProTec & Specialized are very good and tailor made to fit your 'van but are relatively pricey.

The other makes are OK if their generic sizing fits your 'van. reasonably well. I've seen several of these on my storage site blown off, but my ProTec has never budged.

PS. Disregard any posts that may follow suggesting that covers will make your 'van damp, it is not true.
