hey all we pick up our compass refelecion merit the weekend its about a 1993 and i want to brighten it up, has anyone every pained the cuboards and walls? I want it all white so its nice and bright and fresh looking! Will it be more hassle than its worth ?
Why should it be a hassle? If you want to "personalise" your van, just go for it. One of the things I like about owning an older caravan is that you don't have to worry about reducing the resale value. With an older van they are worth whatever anyone else will pay for them. They have no "book value".
I have made modifications to mine, (it's a 1988 model)to make it better suit our needs. If I wanted to paint the inside, I would just do it. Why not?
I was just thinking along the lines of using the wrong materials and making a mess of it as this is my first ever caravan and im not very diy headed haha! but i really want to give it a go and give it a nice new look i want to paint the walls and ceiling and i want the cupboards white.
Many years ago I had an old caravan that I wanted to brighten up a bit. I used ordinary emulsion paint on the walls and ceiling and that came out fine, but I don't remember doing anything to the cupboards. Maybe someone else on here has?
You could always try a small section that is least on show to see whether the paint would take.
Oh great thank you and yeah good idea i will try inside one of the cupboards when I know what paint is best to use on them presume thry will need sanding down first x
There is definitely someone on the forum who has done this, there was a thread entitled something like "old crappy caravans" that had loads of pictures of what people had done to some vans. I recall one being painted in pink, so its most certainly possible, have a look for that thread and maybe message them.
------------- Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.
Feel nostalgic (probably the wrong word) for the trailer tent, but love the caravan. "Camping" all year round is fantastic.

I have painted my caravan inside and out!
I used Dulux to paint the wood surrounds of the doors, the walls and ceiling. I covered the doors in fablon.

Fablon is like sticky backed plastic and it comes in all sorts of patterns and colours. I bought a big roll off eBay for about £12.
I lightly sanded the cupboards before painting them.

Ohh fab ty what paint should I use on the cupboards? x
If you have a nearby Aldi try their water based gloss or matt paints at about £5 tin. Great stuff and water cleans the brushes. Use this at home for skirtins and doors. Hard wearing but sand down and dust off first. Well known brands also make this in a wider range of colours but more expensive. White at Also is fine. Use masking tape and old newspapers to protect adjacent panels or edges.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
