I beleive there is a special tool but is very expensive. Care and lublicate with washing up liquid is my advice.

When you do it try to compress the joint as much as you can i.e. cut it over length as it will shrink and leave a gap if you don't of that you can be certain, and use plenty of lubricant to avoid stretching it when fitting.

Thanks for all the advice folks. I tried washing up liquid but it makes such a mess. Maybe I was using too much. The rubber is really tough to lift up on the opposite side with insert fitted. Am i doing something wrong?

I have found that if u use one of the aluminium beer bottle openers it does help lift it up but it's a slow job.

Perhaps it is a slow job?

Old plastic nectar card to lift the rubber slightly to help the trim seat itself, Afer about 12feet though the card may break. Mine did. I just trimmed it down and carried on.

Same technique for the awning rail trim also.
