Hi, have had to renew bulbs in brake light strip on van but no car at present to hook up and check if working, can I use a 12v source via 7 pin plug, if so, How.

This Caravan Club pdf gives you the pin wiring diagrams for various caravan years, so you should be able to identify the connections for brake lights and earth.

The only drawback with using the plug in tester to check brake lights is that if only one of the lights is working, the tester will still show as "working" because both brake lights are powered through the No.6 pin. Otherwise the tester is invaluable.
