I have a problem with damp wall boarding. I have removed the wall boarding paper and the damaged boarding. I am looking for some advise on what I should do next. Should I remove all the boarding, or could I just place the new wall boarding on top of the original boarding. I am also having problems with removing the socket tower in the bedroom so that I can put the new boarding on. Can anyone recommend the best place to buy wall boarding. Im sure it flax for my caravan. This is on my Bailey Senator and I would appreciate some help. Thank
If it is damp then that signifies a leak which needs fixing to avoid internal rot to framing structures (assuming it is not one of the new bonded vans).
Leaks are usually from the exterior aluminium moulding that covers the joint in sides/roof/end walls. If you are able. Take off the exterior modifications and reseal with an acrylic sealant. Do not use silicone as this reacts with the aluminium and fix back on with new stainless steel screws. Do this before replacing wall board inside. I have successfully used waterproof ply for internal walls and re-papered to suit. You may find after you take off the damp wall board that the framing is also damp which needs drying out or replacing if rotten. If you can make new framing to fit and use "no nails" to secure it. Check the repairs section of this site to get more details of how to do it.
