Hi everyone, I'm about to embark on the rebuild having repaired just about everything on my list. I was waiting for it to rain heavily first so i could make sure that everything was water tight, however I found that some water was still getting. I have traced it to the panel joint that runs the length of the van about a third of the way up. The outside rail is riveted to the panels. The question is what is the best way to repair the leak?
I was planning on drilling out the rivets, cleaning the old mastic off and resealing, but how to fit the rail back on? rivet it or screw it? If I use screws would it be better to fit a wood baton behind it?
Do I GRP over the joint on the inside as it's exposed?
If there is, or you can fit, a wooden batten behind the join I would screw the panels back in case the problem returns at a later date, but if there is no batten or you cannot fit one you will need to use rivets again.
