I`ve been having numerous issues with the electrics on my 1995 Compass Reflections 430/5. My towing vehicle is a 2011 Renault Master van with a 13 pin connector. After using the 7s/7n to 13 pin adapter, i found the connections were too loose and the rear lights were hit and miss. I have now purchased the 13pin male plug with 2 cable entry points and have wired it up as per the numerous diagrams available, however, I`m still having the following issues:
1 - Brake lights arent coming on (red cable is showing continuity from the lights to the plug)
2 - Pin 8 on the 13 pin plug is for reversing lights, which my caravan doesn`t have.
Looking at the auxiliary wiring diagram in the manual, only 7s pins 2, 3, 4 and 6 are utilised:
7s Pin 2 - Blue (battery charging)
7s Pin 3 - White (I`m guessing earth)
7s Pin 4 - Green (diagram shows it going to the fuse for the battery and from there to the Zig controller)
7s Pin 6 - Red (Fridge)
So that leaves, Black, Brown and Yellow wires redundant. Am I correct in assuming the following connections to the 13 pin plug:
Pin 8 - nothing(no reversing lights on van)
Pin 9 - Blue (Permanent 12v)
Pin 10 - Red (Switched 12v for fridge)
Pin 11 - White (Earth)
Pin 12 - nothing
Pin 13 - nothing
Where does the green wire connect to? All of the diagrams I`ve seen say the blue wire is redundant, but it cant be?
I`m in desperate need here of some guidance. Can any of you help?
Many thanks
Your 7s plug should have an earth return for your fridge your fridge supply is pin 6 red and the earth return should be pin 7 black. Most 13 pin connections are like this
Yeah, Ive printed off that guide Geoff, but It still doesn`t make sense. It mentions the blue wire being for battery charging on the caravan, but not used on the 13 pin socket. With the caravan manual diagram showing only the 4 cable colours as per my post, either I`m missing something obvious or I`m just being thick
On the 13 pin the permanent supply including battery charging is pin 9 orange this has an earth return pin 13 white/red.
Blue wire for battery charging? On 13n its fog lights. On 12n its foglights on 12s its sensing device.
on the 12s the permanent cable is green.
These are the standard 12N and post 1999 12S wiring connections. Check compatibility with your car in case it is wired differently.
12n pin 1 Yellow Left indicator to Eurosocket pin1
12n pin 2 Blue Rear Fog to Eurosocket pin 2
12n pin 3 White Earth to Eurosocket pin 3
12n pin 4 Green Right Indicator to Eurosocket pin4
12n pin 5 Brown Right tail/Num plate to Eurosocket pin 5
12n pin 6 Red Brake/stoplamp to Eurosocket pin 6
12n pin 7 Black Left tail/num plate to Eurosocket pin 7
12s pin 1 Yellow Reverse lamps to Eurosocket pin 8
12s pin 4 Green Internal equipment to Eurosocket pin 9
12s pin 6 Red Fridge to Eurosocket pin 10
12s pin 7 Black Earth for pin 10 to Eurosocket pin 11
12s pin 2 Blue Not used to Eurosocket pin 12
12s pin 3 White Earth for pin 9 to Eurosocket pin 13
12s pin 5 Brown Not used
On the current 7 pin electrics, on the 12s (grey) the back and white cables go into clip and not into the fuse. I wanted to know if this how the wires are earthed? On a 13pin 11 earth return for 10(fridge).
