Our leisure battery gave up the ghost last outing so I ordered another one , unfortunately I put the wires on the wrong way round (+ to - ) , I now have no power going into the caravan either 12 volt or 240 volt , the power is not getting as far as the consumer unit as the red power switch is not illuminating . Obviously, I have blown something, would it be the change over switch?

You may have tripped the supply. Check switches on consumer unit should be in the up position for on. If supply trips switches will flick to down position. Also check fuses.

Thanks for your reply, I checked the trips and they are all up, I don't think the power has gone that far as the supply light on the consumer unit is not on, I was wondering if there is a fuse /switch between the power in and the consumer unit.

WE have a spade fuse on the positive line to the battery. If you have one, it is worth checking.

Check that the 230V supply is coming into the van by pushing the test button on the RCD (it is marked TEST),if it trips you have supply to the van if it doesn't then you may have tripped the RCD at the supply end.

Thanks for the tip about the spade fuse, the good news is the fuse marked battery in the consumer unit had blown, changed it, plugged in and the battery charge light came on and also the light on the consumer unitwent red and I was able to put the van in its spot as the motor movers worked, there is 240 volt to the plugs but the lights or any 12 volt service will not work and when 12 volt is switched on the ammeter is going to discharge (swinging right over to the left ) as if there is a short somewhere . Its a new 110ah battery last week I fitted, I am wondering if it has been charged the wrong way round when manufactured.

Highly unlikely to be a problem with the battery, however if you have a multi-meter you can check the polarity of the battery easy enough.

If the ammeter is going hard-over it does sound like you have a short somewhere, so it's just a case of going round each 12 volt item in turn to find it.

Colin

Thanks Colin , I am just wondering if I have blown the 12 volt board as the motor mover (12 volt) is wired separately from a deadman switch directly from the battery to its control box . I f this the case I will ask our electrician if its feasible to install a new consumer unit for the 12volt system as the makers of the consumer unit Bonus plugin systems are out of business as a control box builder.

The electrician delved deeper today, the board has gone but I phoned Bonus plugin systems who used to make my model consumer unit who put me in touch with Oleary motorhomes who bought their stock and still have several in stock.
