we are having problems with our security alarm going off ,because we have not used it since we had the van (brought second hand in 2009)we don't have much idea,we don't have any info ie:book,we have a remote key,but it was corroded ,so even though we put a new battery in ,it doesn't appear to be working?any suggestions
Grampian 91,thanks for reply, do you mean the alarm will have its own back up battery,? ......Dave S1,our van is a Fleetwood,so no longer,in business, but I have found info online,Haegil, who I have contacted and they need a email with details, for security ?so they probably mean VIN number,......
Caravan alarms, like domestic systems have a backup battery, which in turn is kept charged by the vans leisure battery. If the latter is removed in the winter say, then the alarms own battery will last for a few months - duration will depend on how old and how its been treated. They are standby batteries, not designed to deep cycle, but life expectancy is about 5 years.
thanks for reply,....so it means we need a remote key to disarm the system as it must be functioning?or if that isn't a option (we don't have a working key at the moment)if we could locate the battery,we maybe could remove it?....thing is we don't know where /how to access it as no mention of it in the Fleetwood users manual.2004.
You will have to hunt around for the alarm box - the manuals don't mention its location for obvious reasons.
Some older ones had the casing halves pop riveted together, more recent ones are simpler. Either way the battery is very easy to remove once the alarm is opened up, and they are easily found online and not overly expensive.
Unfortunately we have no idea what make, the only info is what I have found online, which, when describing remote key,I found Sola-larm ??,which looks like ours, but it's a bit of a long shot,.......we have found another key among the stuff, but that doesn't work either and we are a bit reluctant to try to clean it up after the first one seems to have suffered more damage!!,so the second key Has been sprayed with WD40,"just around the terminal " (his words not mine ).So ,the plan for the weekend ......is to try to trick the alarm by not opening the door until we have connected to hook and let it (warm up ) HA! HA! / hunt for the alarm/contact Haegil to see if they have our type of key hopefully one out of the three will produce a good result . Thank you for advice ,will post any results .
UPDATE.... would just like to say we are sorted, after contacting Haegil,I had a call from one of their engineers, lovely man who was so helpful, talked us through what we needed to do to resolve problem, cant praise/thank them enough,THANK YOU ROB AT HAEGIL.CO.UK
