Help needed.. we went to van couple weeks ago (on seasonal pitch) i put heater on elec to warm caravan through.. daughter then put kettle on for a cuppa.. after about 30 secs elec went off... tripped in site box outside van.. reset this and elec back on.. but also noticed heater trip gone out inside van..reset this but only cold air coming from heater.. turned temp dial to 9 left it for 45 mins but still no heat... it works fine on gas but no heat on elec.. i wonder if element gone and thats why it tripped heater trip inside van or could i have missed something... tried unplugging mains for 20 mins still no good.. any ideas please.
Are you familiar with this warm air heating or is it something new?
If you are familiar then was it working on electric okay previously?
45 minutes isn't very long as it takes a few hours for the Truma warm air to operate effectively otherwise it will just blow cold air.
Site elec is 16A... had kettle on plenty times with heater before with no probs... yes i am familiar with how long it takes to get warm... so not sure if element gone or i've missed something on reset.. i will investigate further.
When the power suddenly dissapeared and the heaters were working on max heat, there is a chance that one of the overcurrent cut-outs has tripped by the heater elements.
They also have a tendency for burning out the push-on connectors or contacts within then. There are more than one heaters in there so that you can select 3 different wattages. I don't think you have damaged all the heaters and they are pretty robust anyway, I'd look elswhere.

Thanx pickled onion... i've tried all three power settings.500.. 1000.and 2000 none work.. but green light on dial is on.. i'll have a look round to if i can find anything else wrong instead of element when we go down to van this weekend... just in case its not the elements..
The green light means there is low voltage control power to the relay PCB so the transformer on there is ok. It could be quite a few things but some parts are more prone to failing than others.
Relay contacts burn out through use, however they tend to drop out one at a time so you may have noticed a drop in heat output should that be the case. Can you hear any 'clicking' sounds as you turn the thermostat up and down?
There are 2 overtemperature cut-outs to protect the electric heater from getting way too hot should something fail turning the heater full on permanently. The connections to them are also prone to failure.
It's a case of hunting things down and seeing if they are working properly before buying expensive parts that may not need replacing. However, the problem is that they are not easy to get at to check them over.
My advice would be to check as much as you can and if you still can't determine the cause then consult the professionals.

Hi, sounds like a problem we had with our blow air heating if we used it with only one vent open then turned it off it would only come on cold next time as it's overheat switch would trip. I had to reset it by pressing the reset switch which is on black fan casing at back of heater on LH side,. Located under wardrobe base on my caravan. It was difficult to see more a case of feeling for it a strip of plastic to press. I never now use it without running on cold setting for a few minutes before turning off.
