I recently bought a new van, so am in the process of selling my current one privately (2005 6 berth). A few enquiries and questions answered. However the next two stumped me. I know the recommendation, but the question I have is "is it illegal"?
1. Your tyres are more than 5 years old (6.5) - they are illegal?
2. Your gas pipe is more than 5 years old (7), it is illegal?
The first one I know the recommendation on 5 years. It is also why, when in storage, i store the van with the wheels off and on 'struts'. Doesn't change the age of the tyre, but is a preventative measure.
The gas pipe I knew nothing about.
I'm happy to replace, or negotiate on the price around those items, but it was the phrase "they are illegal" which I wasn't clear on and cannot find a clear answer on t'internet.
What did the engineer say when the caravan was serviced last year? Our engineer always told us how old bits were and when they were scheduled to be replaced.
Neither are illegal however it is good practice to change the tyres at 5 years same with gas pipe. If the tyres are good we do not bother with changing them even if they are 7 or 8 years old.
Rubber gas pipes have a date repeated on them - I believe these should be changed at 5 years. More recent bottle to bulkhead regulator hoses with fittings attached have a 10 year life.
