Hi just got my new caravan for a really good price. It's a coachman laser caravan 2004 590 it has a few little issues that need sorting. The biggest issue being that the front gas locker floor is rotten from the front edge to around 4inches back. Luckily enough it's separate from the main floor. Has anyone got any experience of repairing this. It's a lovely van just this needs sorting out ASAP. I have been advised by someone that I would have to put front in the air loosen the a frame as to open a gap up between a frame and van to slide floor out after unbolting it sounds a little daunting is there an easier resolution Thanks in advance

Could you put a new plywood on top of the base you will need a gap all round for gas to fall outside I use chicken wire in the gap to stop mice getting the gas locker

Ive thought about that but I would rather get the rotten old one out and replace with new

The old base should be held on with brackets or bolted to the A frame

If it were me:
Unbolt and cut in half to get it out.
Use original as template and work out where best to cut to mount new pieces. Replace with new marine grade ply, painted with thinned paint or a decent preserver.
Dropping the frame is a big job that will cause more issues than you want.

That's what I was thinking of doing phishing. I was told by someone on a coachman group who apparently works on them for a living that I could take the A frame plastic cover off remove drawbar and jocky wheel unbolt floor, then this is the part I couldn't get my head around. I'll need 2 people with me to push down on A frame and slide floor out in 1 piece. But isn't the A frame all one piece of the chassis. I think I'll save the hassle and do what you suggest

That's the way I would do it, and perhaps reinforce under the cut with another piece of ply

Finished as locker floor ended up taking your advice and doing it in 2 pieces turned out really well and I'm happy with it but I've found some worrying damp on front corners which was hidden by metal covers. I was thinking of resealing the awning rails but think I'll have trouble etting the screws to bite as the timber is rotten how on earth will I sort this out

Brilliant job. I have exactly the same issue, same caravan, same year!! How easy was this to do? I'm handy enough, but any tips on removing the old one would be much appreciated Ryan.

Hi, I’ve been researching how to replace the gas locker floor on my 2005 Adria Altea 502DK. I have read your post and it looks like you had a similar problem.
Did you manage to complete the replacement and if so, do you have any advice ?
The door to the locker is virtually the full width of the caravan, so access shouldn’t really be a problem.
I don’t think I’ll be be able to replace the old floor with one single sheet, so I was thinking of replacing it in two halves, the joining them together once in situ.
Any advice will be gratefully received.
