Hi all again, I've recently taken on a new project on the 'van. I wanted to replace the hideous carpet with some nice grey wood effect light weight lino. And now im regretting it as its exposed a bit of rotten flooring near the door and around kitchen area.
I dont know how to upload images.
Has anybody else suffered with sections of the top plywood rot? And how have you repaired it?
Thanks in advance
sorry but i dont see a rotten floor, i see one that has areas where water has spilt or wetted due to bringing in wet shoes on. to be honest it looks more like the roof light has been left open in a thunderstorm
I had to replace the top ply in an area under the bed due to a leak through the locker door. I usded a multitool saw and found it ideal for the task, another way is to use a router set at the depth of the ply, (usually about 3 or 4mm), a bit more messy but quicker.
As the ply is bonded to the ply using a multitool say means you cut a small piece of ply out so that you can get the saw into it and undercut the wood from the foam, try and leave the foam nice and level so that it supports the new ply. I ended up removing small letter-box sized pieces as that was as far as thre blade would reach, slow but gets there in the end. You will come across cross battens of wood that are there to strenghthen the floor in places, it's unlikely that they will need any attention.
Both areas are places where delamination takes place so with any luck, most of the ply will have already detached itself fron the foam making removal easier, but if so you are likely then to have to fix the delamination problem too.

Hi dave and thanks for the reply and advise. The middle by the cooker and fridge more so stained with the usual high traffic delam problem and a slight bit of rot where the bathroom door is... suspect from 20 years of bathroom use... so i may just get away with delam resin kit for that area...
But the section by the door is definitely rotten so that section will need replacing. It all feels dry though so im wondering if its had a previous water ingress repair before hand and the floor was just left to dry out and over the years its just rotten away, but i dont know im no caravan expert. Hence why ive joined this forum for advise off the experts lol.
Also what are peoples experiences with the delam kits, as ive noticed there are two to choose from. The two part resin kit and the ready mixed green kit? What are the differences and which works better.
Hi Declan, the rot at the door could be water ingress so have a good inspection around the door rubbers, look for cuts, bits missing, twisted out of place, etc., and does it shut properly? If it was me I'd place something like kitchen towel on the floor and gently spray around the door with a hose for a short while to see if water does indeed get in, if it does it will be pretty obvious on the paper. The pattern on the floor may suggest that quite a lot of water has got in and pooled in the lower trodden areas.
If not, better still, it may simply be that lots of wet footfall have saturated the carpet too many times.
As for delam kits, I've only used the one-shot type but for quite a few times over the years so can't comment on the other one. I chose it as it seemed less aggressive and didn't need weight on top or support from the bottom. They both work well, there are lots of tips on here on how to use them successfully but most of it is common sense, planning, and cleanliness as the can be messy.

Just a quick message to say the caravan floor has now been repaired. Was a bit of a job for a novice caravanner but we got there in the end. But the vinyl plank floor looks amazing and well worth the £50.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Thank you, that vinyl plank flooring is lovely to work with though. If anyone is thinking of changing their floors then i highly recommend it. The misses now wants in the bathroom lol
Yes it is, but ive just been in the caravan now to get something out of it and ive noticed i have high and low spots on the area by the fridge, and a little creak.
So a little disheartened but it'll have to stay like it because i dont fancy taking the floor back up again, never mind.
