After 7 years of caravanning our flush pump has broken. I have seen numerous videos on how to change it so that's fine but i wasn't aware that you need to empty the flush tank regularly (not sure why this never crossed my mind) so i know i need to pull the bung from within the cassette compartment but when i've gone to look at my pump from the side of the toilet (i.e looking down into the flush tank) i've noticed a lot of build up of blue on there and so i think it needs cleaning so can anyone give me advise on how i can do this ? do i just empty the tank and then keep filling it up with the bung off until it gets clean ?
you dont put the blue into the flush! that goes into the bottom tank with your waste and paper to dissolve it, for the flush you use either plain water or the pink

lol....it's things like that you don't get taught when buying a caravan....so....i thought blue and pink were just "types" of toilet fluid....are you saying that pink is for flush and blue for the cassette ?
You can just use plain water in the flush tank.The pink stuff if left in too long causes black bits!( Mould) Guess how I know?
I bought some Fenwicks tank cleaner which you add to warm water put in, leave then flush out.
Couple of times and its fine.

Or you could just use the one fluid for both tanks.

If you had visited 'YouTube' you would have gained the knowledge about how to us a Thetford toilet correctly as there are numerous videos on the subject plus just about everything else you need to know about caravanning as well.

Well they haven’t, they asked a question here.
Thankfully most people answered with something useful. Actually I suppose you are correct too, YouTube is full of many videos which can answer many questions that you didn’t know you had.

It's okay saying 'Well they haven't, they asked on here' but the question the OP initially asked was related to the toilet pump not working which the topic of toilet fluids was raised later in the thread. At least my reply was educational and helpful as a short video is quite often worth a thousand words in comparison to a long drawn out explanation. Hopefully the OP learned something from it anyway which is what this forum is all about.
My flusher packed up whilst away too recently.I replaced to whole thing as I was on site and I didn't want any problems, but the excellent service and advice I got from Winchester Caravans was that on the bottom of the pump there are little clips that hold the bottom plate on which break off over time. The plate can simply be glued back together using waterproof glue that way the fix will be virtually free, a replacement bottom plate was around £10 and the complete pump unit £30

It may be only after years of blissfully thinking you are doing something 'right', then find out you are not because somethings gone wrong. Thats when you might take to youtube. You would never be off there if you thought you needed advice on every single aspect of your life.
And even youtube isnt always right. Ive seen at least couple of 'advice' videos where they have made an arse of what they are showing you. They do it for the kudos and social media acclaim. That its necessarily correct is another matter.
