The caravan is a Bailey Pegasus. The Top hinge pin has worn away the plastic on the top of the door allowing it to drop. To close you have to lift it . I have taken off the two screws on the control panel and pulled away slightly but to get at the pin screws you obviously have to pull harder to get the control knobs to come away. Or do you pull the knobs off. ? Not sure about that as there must be wires attached to the rear of them ( I have read) I can see the 3 screws holding the pin bracket , but need to pull the fascia off a little more to try a get to them.
I’m thinking about giving it up at the end of the season and will effect a repair if poss , have read a few ideas.
If a member has had a similar problem perhaps they could reply please.
Had the same problem a few years ago. Took the door off and glued a strip of suitably drilled piece of metal onto the door. Still going strong after 3 1/2 years
Pretty common problem as they are still making them the same way, ie, poorly designed. I had to do mine too because there is no bearing let into the plastic so it just wears away the thin plastic until the door bashes on the bottom support. Horrendously expensive to buy a replacement too.
Strangely, putting bottles of wine, milk and pop in the door makes it worse, ....... just crazy

Yes basically internally these vans are pretty poorly made , the ovens are poor with sharp edges , if you take the front off the fire and look at the way it’s held in it’s a joke .
However I am still asking the question of …how do I take off the fascia or release it far enough to get at those screws. Apprehensive to pull it too hard as it might fall apart !
The control knobs should pull straight off. From memory you then have a couple of screws under the facia which once removed should allow it to be gently pulled away.
Don't pull to hard and be careful of the igniter for the gas.
Please be aware that this is from memory of a task I had to do getting on for 4 years ago so may have missed something. Best practice take loads of photos as you go so you can refer back to them if necessary.
On my one, there are two self tapping screws under the top moulding where the control knobs are, (open the door & look up) both of the knobs need removing too. The fashia should now slide forward, but,... be careful as the indicator for the gas flame (little meter thing), comes with it on longish wires.
With the cover out of the way you can now see that there is a metal bracket with a hinge pin sticking down into the door top. Access to the bracket screws is next, and not too easy, I used a 90 degree screwdriver to loosen mine enough to get the door off to work on.

Yes got as far a pulling fascia forward and noticed that flame indicator on the move.. did you pull off knobs with mole grips ! Or pull harder on the fascia.?
No problem Tony, either would do I suppose, but they were a bit tight first time. Use mole grips/pliers but try to protect the surface of the plastic knobs with some masking tape or similar. There is no grub screw, just a friction push fit. Also one shaft is thinner than the other.

Have got the fascia off , pulled the knobs off, that green gas gauge has two small holes but not used.. they rely on pushing the fascia in . They may have altered things a little I see a post which says to use a right angled driver to take screws off the bracket but with mine you simply unscrewed the bolt which is threaded into that bracket. which just goes into the worn plastic l did try and stick a metal plate on , in which I had drilled the hole but my loctite adhesive didn’t like sticking metal to plastic.. can’t find anything amongst my bits but I’ll get a piece of nylon strip to stick on .
Didn’t have an awkward rear screw so perhaps I was lucky.

Hello Trog, you are right about overloading the door. In saying that it’s been ok for 8 years , it was just a nuisance lifting it slightly to close It. And I gues it would have been only a question of time before th hole n the door would hand broken away. Once I had spoken with Dave I was more confident about taking the fascia off which clearly shows the 3 cross head screws that hold that bracket ( didn’t have to remove them) .I just took a driver to the bolt that goes into the hole and it screwed out ( the thread was actually in the bracket) .once you’ve got the fascia off and unscrew the bolt you can make your repair . I need to get a nylon washer and stick that over the hole..
