Hi, we've just returned from 'one of those' trips where several niggly things went wrong with our (now aging) Eldiss caravan. The most expensive problem is a leaking water heater, I removed the outer cover/vent flue to have a look. The main casting behind the flue is quite badly corroded so I'm quite sure the heater has seen better day's.

I understand from reading an old thread on here that Carver are no longer in business, so my options seem to be a second hand system this would be quite simple to replace as all the electrics and pipe work is in sutu, the other option would be a like for like replacement.

I am fairly practical so after doing some research I'm confident that I could manage a straight replacement, the obvious issue would be trusting the quality of a second hand unit off ebay. The other option would be to buy a new heater, plus the expense of having it fitted.

Can anyone recommend where I may be able to get hold of a second hand Carver unit or advise on the best type of replacement.

Many thanks

Gary

The casing behind the flue may be corroded but the tank itself is made from stainless steel so there should be no corrosion on the tank cylinder. If it's leaking it's usually down to two reasons, either the tank is split (which is very unlikely) or the big 'O' ring that seals in the trumpet part of the front of the tank has perished or shifted and needs resealing. The best action to take is to remove the tank first and do a full inspection. Do a search on Ebay for 'Henry Carver Cascade 2 GE Rapide Water Heater Tank O Ring Seal & Fitting Kit' as you can buy the spares to reseal the hot water tank if necessary.

Hi tango, that's fantastic information, I really appreciate the time and effort you have taken to help. As soon as this rain stops I'll take it out and give it a proper inspection, hopefully it will be a cheaper fix!

Thanks once again.

Kind regards.

Gary

If you do a Google search for 'Carver Cascade 2 exploded view' there are diagrams showing all the individual parts which you can see the large 'O' ring that seals the top of the hot water tank. I have tried to provide a link without success but at least you can have a look yourself. Also, have a look on 'YouTube' as there are several videos available which may help.
