Help. Just come back from holiday, and I can’t remove the cassette toilet from its housing. The toilet flushes, and the switch makes the blade open and close, though it seems harder than usual. But when I go to remove the cassette it’s stuck. I could probably force it but I think it will break something. Anyone any ideas ? Worked fine all holiday.
It may not be the flap at fault. Open the toilet service door and have a look inside the cassette compartment on top of the waste tank as there should be a plastic blade protruding from the top which pushes open the pressure relief valve. The valve has a spring underneath which enables the valve to open and close when you remove and replace the waste tank and this could be jammed stopping the cassette tank from being withdrawn. However, not all waste tanks are of the same design so it would be a big advantage if you stated what make and model the toilet is but all toilet tanks have to be fitted with a pressure relief valve somewhere to enable the gases to escape.
It may be what I had last trip out. The mechanism which opens and closes flap had jumped teeth so not allowing the cassette operating knob to be in the straight position to pull out. I got a hacksaw blade and sawed the orange knob off and then the cassette came out. I then ordered a new knob from Leisureshopdirect and in the meantime put the plastic gear back in the correct tooth. This gear is very flimsy and this is the second time it has happened in 6 years.
Forgot to add needed to remove emptying spout first. Twists and pulls out.
It is not as basic as you are overlooking unlatching the big yellow latch set in the cassette's base, with the floor, just inside the door?
Otherwise, I have my suspicions what has happened is the internal "gearing" has jumped over a cog, leaving the bit that transmits the rotation [ item 23 in the link] not aligned with the cassettes main axis, ie still a bit out of line.
I think there is a way to reset this via a hand through the flap hole, but can't supply info on that.
If it is just slightly out of line, a decent pull might spring things enough, but that's a risky option that still will leave sorting out the internals, though in a more accessible way.
Thanks I've poked and prodded it and it has now come out! But the flush now seems stiff and sometimes sticks. I can put it back, remove it etc. But the flush doesn't feel right. Is there something I can do to 'oil' it ? It's a Thetford c400 btw. I'm looking to sell soon, so I want it to work reliably for any new buyer.
