I have just purchased a 97 Abi dalesman 250T for a bargain price at an estate clearance.
90% of things are ok and just need a spruce up, a clean and modernising slightly.
I am looking for any hints and tips as to whether this mould I found behind the top bunk bed (as its been sat packed down for some time) may cause me some significant issues, or whether after giving it a good drying out and a coat of
That may be either just surface mould from possibly condensation, OR water ingress mould that has penetrated wall.
It's a funny place for water ingress to appear, and funny distribution, but never say never! - is the wall at all soft or spongy? - if so, then likely like an iceberg, it's only the tip of the problem, what's behind wall and hidden will likely be much bigger issue!
It looks very much like surface damp trapped between upper bunk panel and wall. If like my bunk, it's fabric covered and would wick damp across a large area. May have been leakage through window seal! The worst of it should be easily removable, but probably always going to leave a stain. As it's an old van, you could paint or recover wall without reducing value.
A damp meter (preferably the no-pin kind that doesn't leave holes on tested areas!) is only way of checking for damp, it's severity and it's extent.
The wall is not spongey and I’ve ordered a damp checker off Amazon just waiting for it to come, but there’s nothing around the window and the seal is intact, so I also assume it is surface damp *fingers crossed*
