Hi , I have a carver water heater fitted in my camper van , it's not a factory built van but I'm guessing the heater is , maybe , mid nineties . It's getting difficult to light first thing in the morning , I keep pressing the start button but green light goes out after about ten seconds & red light comes on , after trying this repeatedly , I fired up my Genny & used 240v with no problems . When I get home later in the day , it lights at the first or second attempt , on gas , with no apparent problem . Would it help if I covered the outside vent overnight & removed it before use the next morning ? Thanks Steve

Well I never had to cover the outside vent with mine. It sounds more likely to be air in the gas pipe which had been cleared by the time you got home, especially if you had changed the bottle recently. It can still happen even if you haven't, but its more likely if you have.
it sounds like you are either in need of a new battery, or you are using butane (blue) bottle gas, as the temp is lowering now you will find it harder to light butane compared to propane
I was having the same problem with my old Coachman. I used to have to turn on the electric water heater to raise the temp a bit before the gas would fire up.
Got rid of the van though before resolving the problem, here are my thoughts on it though.
I knew the battery was down so that was one issue I would have checked, after that was the possibility that the ignitor module was at fault.
