Just trying to move our caravan for the first time in almost a year.
All winter we have 2 oil radiators to give a little heat for the benefit of preventing damp.
Anyway today we just want to put some air in the tyres and give it a spin but have no power to the master switch. On the mains switch it shows 0 Volts when you flick the switch, also we have no lights either.
I have tried the obvious things, I've changed the 20v fuse which is under the battery box, I've also changed the EHU cable. From the house socket I have connected a kettle to the EHU cable and the kettle does take power.
Non of the MCB's have tripped and just to check I have tripped them and then reset them.
We have no power even to activate the motor mover and to get the caravan onto or off of the drive we need it as the car will not be of any use even if I practiced reversing with the caravan attached.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Oh dear! Suggest you may get specific answers if you let people know what make, model and year of the caravan
Your approximate location might even locate a knowledgeable neighbour.
Good luck, DaveS1
If the battery has no charge then nothing 12v will work, so it could be the battery has had it or the onboard charger isn't working. If you have a separate battery charger I suggest you put the battery on charge for a day and see if it charges at all, if it does leave it for a day or so to see if it holds the charge, if not it's a new battery, if it does then it's most probably the onboard charger thats at fault.

Thank you Tina
Currently I have connected the battery up to a charger to see how things go.
if the 12 volt battery has been left flat for a long time its probably knackered.. probably time for a new one.. the van charge sounds like it may be not working ether.. it may just have been not switched on..
lead acid batteries left really flat develop a hard sulphate layer and will never take a charge again..
I would also agree that the onboard charger has probably failed, and this has resulted in a flat and probably destroyed battery. Batteries don't last long at all once they have been left discharged (flat).
I have put the van on charge again but not expecting miracles.
Admittedly I never put the battery on charge for long but in the time it was on I got some power to the van with it and the motor mover was working.
The van does not have the wonderful aroma of rotten eggs from the battery dying and the side walls of the battery have not blown out on any sides either.
You could disconnect the battery and use a multimeter on the output of the onboard charger and see what readings you get, this would identify the charger is putting out 12v power.
I assume that there is 220v power coming out of the sockets in the van?
I think at the least it’s a new battery, as suggested above if it’s been flat for so long, worth checking the charger as above though
Hi Mark, I've just read through this and I have a few questions which may help track down the problem.
When you had the heaters on over the winter were they connected to the caravan or to the house?
If the heaters worked when connected to the caravan what has happened since then if none of the sockets work now?
How old is the leisure battery? If it's more than 3 or 4 years old it's probably due to be replaced soon anyway.
Have you got a multimeter to check the battery voltage and charger output? If you could check the charger output as suggested by Basa that would help to isolate the problem.
If the charger is working but the battery is not charged could you borrow a battery to try out the 12 volt circuits are working before you spend any money unnecessarily?
Electrical problems are often difficult to track down hence the list of questions to try and eliminate the cause.

Hi Basa
We had no power from any of the sockets in the van

If there is no power from any of the mains sockets in the caravan the problem must be in the EHU lead, the mains input socket, or the onboard consumer unit. It could be that the relevant circuit breaker in it has gone faulty. If this failed some time back the charger could be ok, but it's likely the battery has been ruined by not being charged.
