while using the cooker last week I noticed that with the grille and one ring lit, the pressure seemed to drop to an extreme level. I've been caravanning for many years and have never noticed this before. I'm just wondering if it's always been like this and I haven't noticed or is there something wrong. Plenty gas in the bottle. It may be I've only ever used one ring/grille/oven at any particular time.

it could be that your connection needs replacing as it may be gummed up, we had the same thing happen to us a few years back and had to change the pig tail

Gas pressure is set at a predetermined level by a regulator, in a caravan, it is usually on the bulkhead where the gas bottle sits. They were articles on here where a kind of thick oil type residue caused them to fail. It may be that there is sufficient gas for only one item at a time to work? If this is the case, my guess is the regulator but check that the cooker isolation tap hasn't been accidently moved. Also make sure it is fixed above the gas bottle as this residue shouldn't go uphill. Plus, if the rubber pig-tail is more than 3 years old (it should have a date stamp on the side) replace that too.

Dave.

If you take the regulator out and leave it to stand propped up you will often find a yellowish colour oil run out. When this stops you may find it will work again. If not it will need replacing. They do make a filter now to put in the pipeline to stop this but they are very expensive, about £50

This might be worth repeating, problems with any contamination present in a bottle can be very simply removed by first postioning the bottle ready for connection, then rapidly cracking open the gas tap shutting and repeating once in quick succession.
This will instantly blast any contaminant trapped in the neck under the tap clear, then once connected, deliver clean pure gas to the system.
