Hi everybody, My lovely hubby did not put our caravan hitch onto the towball correctly, yes you know what happened. Nobody was hurt, thankfully, but our beloved Bessie went rolling straight into a lamp post. My question is, The person who is mending our caravan is currently running at slow speed, he is finding it difficult to get prices back etc. We were due to go away next week, all paid for, said gent says he can make or caravan road worthy for us to use while waiting for all the parts coming so that we can still go away. I do not think this is even legal, please advise.

If it is just body damage then provided everything is secured & nothing is likely to fall off with no sharp edges to endanger anybody then yes. Perfectly legal to tow.

In this instance I wouldn't take the chance of taking the caravan on the road just on the advice of the company who is undertaking the repairs. It's somewhat risky due to the fact that if you do have another incident during the meantime the insurance could refuse to pay out then it's your word against the repair company. The correct course of action I would suggest is to contact your caravan insurance for advice and see what they advise.

Good advice from Tango 55. Do not attempt using it unless your insurer Sanctions it. Presumably pictures of damage have been forwarded to them. If not make sure they see the damage so they can decide. If they say no take their advise. Presumably as you call it Bessie it is a Swift manufactured. They have been on holiday shutdown August and in normal times 14 to. 16 weeks is normal for parts
