can anybody shed any light on why the positive/negative wires appear to be wired the wrong way around on the solar panel icon and what if any harm will this cause

My FIL's charger was like that when he got his van brand new. He switched it over and no ill effects.

tdrees thanks for the reply, was looking for a possible reason as to why this was wired this way. I have changed them over and will take a look later in the week as the van is in storage

Human error one would assume but did you check the voltage on the leads was correct polarity, to make sure it isn't wired wrong at the panel end too?

Decent charge controllers will monitor their connection and simply shut down if wrong, so theoretically this controller may not have been outputting to the battery.

G7ACU the polarity when checking with meter was correct. i have now switched the wires over, all seems fine for now fingers crossed

Good stuff, at least you know the error wasn't replicated both ends, although a concern how this would have occurred in the first place; lapse of concentration I would guess
