One of the caravan front window curtains requires a replacement popper tape as two of the poppers have detached from the plastic tape and not securing the curtain to the bottom curtain rail. I have read a previous post from 2011 which gives basic guidance but needed a bit more detailed information regarding whether the sewing machine zipper foot needs to be changed to a narrow single fork and what size needle is best required to do the task. My wife has a sewing machine and quite good at sewing material garments but never had any experience with this type of heavy duty sewing before so any further advice would be most grateful. Thanks.
This is the previous thread that I found in relation to the above.
As I'm not sure about the materials you are using, I would suggest the needle is changed to one suitable for denim? And for the foot, if you have a machine that does zigzags etc, the foot should have a setting for 1 side, rather than centre, like for stitching zips, which you might be able to make work.
I Googled regarding the size needle required for denim and heavy duty stitching which the recommended size is 110/18 which sewing through the plastic popper strip would be the best choice which I've now ordered off Ebay. I'm sure that a 1 side foot would be required for the task identical to sewing a zip in place but the sewing machine does do zig-zag stitching as well as other styles too so I need to have a look at the foot but I think it's just a fixed V shape.
Thanks for your reply.
Thanks for your above replies Fiona. The 110/18 sewing machine needles came through the post this morning so it's just a matter of looking in the bag of tricks now to see if there is a foot designed for the purpose of the task of sewing the new popper tape onto the bottom of the curtain.
